2020 Lt. Governor's Virtual Travel & Tourism Summits

Event Description
The Oklahoma Travel Industry Association partnered with Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell to produce the 2020 Lt. Governor's Travel & Tourism Summits, which was held virtually for the very first time! Each virtual half-day program provided tourism education featuring speakers covering a range of topics on best practices to promote tourism in your region, and included a town hall-type discussion by the Lt. Governor on tourism development.

We are proud to partner with Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell to produce each of these Summit programs. His leadership within the tourism community is both supportive and engaging. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from the Lt. Governor at next year's summit events. Come prepared to ask him questions and support his goal to make Oklahoma a Top Ten State in Tourism!

Topic: Destination Oklahoma – Digital Drives Revenue
Speaker: Summer Kirkland, Senior Vice President & Media Advisor with Stephens Media Group
Messaging that stands out in today’s digital environment has a direct influence in the choice of options for travel and leisure.  Traditional marketing messages no longer captivate audiences. A community or destination’s “virtual” appeal impacts visitor choices, resulting in increased revenue.  This presentation will cover essential elements of successful destination marketing, including digital marketing, advertising, website management and branding strategies.  The session will provide participants with a better understanding of the power of digital marketing and provide tips and tricks to complement current tourism trends.

Thursday, September 24th
Hosted by: Visit Shawnee and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation
Topic: Unusual Partners in a Time of Coopetition
To paraphrase, "COVID times make strange bedfellows."  While in years past, you may have looked across your county line, community, street or parking lot and saw competitors, today's savvy business owner, tourism director or community official needs to put those rivalries aside for the greater good.  Renowned tourism and development consultant, Berkeley Young will lead us on an exploration of forming unusual partnerships in these unusual times.  How can you better utilize your limited adverting dollars for maximum impact by working together?  How can you keep visitors engaged while in your community and expand the time and dollars spent at each establishment?  Mr. Young will discuss the spirit of "coopetition."  Sometimes our greatest ally in recruiting new business is that same entity we have competed with for years.  Join us for this fun and energizing "straight talk" session about successfully implementing partnerships in this new era.
Speaker: Berkeley W. Young, President of Young Strategies, Inc.
